Design in Motion: Rebuild LA, Legends, and Creative Culture in Los Angeles

This past week in Los Angeles was a celebration of ideas, connection, and design in all its forms—and a perfect reflection of the creative energy Maestri Studio is proud to be immersed in as part of the LA design community.

The week began with the Rebuild LA charrette, hosted by the Design Leadership Network. Over two days, more than 60 leading architects, designers, and builders came together to reimagine how California can rebuild communities impacted by wildfires—through resilient, place-based architecture that respects heritage and lifestyle.

Participants divided into smaller working groups, each tasked with envisioning a distinct regional approach to rebuilding. Eddie Maestri and his team focused on Spanish Revival concepts—proposing design solutions that honored historical vernacular while meeting the needs of contemporary living.
You can view highlights and featured sketches from the charrette here in DLN’s journal.

From there, the creative momentum continued as Legends of La Cienega took over the city.

Things kicked off with the Opening Soirée at BDDW—a warm, tactile gathering of designers, editors, and industry voices where impeccable craftsmanship and thoughtful conversation set the tone for the days ahead.

Throughout the week, Maestri Studio joined a series of events and conversations that reinforced our passion for storytelling through design. Highlights included:

  • A private tour of the iconic Stahl House (Case Study House #22), hosted by Save Iconic Architecture. Designed by Pierre Koenig in 1959, this landmark of modernist architecture remains a powerful symbol of vision and restraint.

  • Painting a custom Gracie scene with artist Taki Watanabe at Gracie Studio—an intimate creative moment that linked past and present.

  • A sensory escape at Atacama Home, where Argentinian wool textiles created a layered, tactile experience.

  • Reconnecting with thoughtful creatives like Jill Cohen and celebrating shared values through design dialogue.

  • A festive evening in Ken Fulk's garden courtyard—where storytelling and theatricality came to life in the most Ken Fulk of ways.

  • And a beautiful housewarming party hosted by Kathryn M. Ireland—filled with color, character, and the effortless charm she’s known for.

From intimate sketching sessions to large-scale conversations about the future of design, this week affirmed the importance of collaboration, cultural integrity, and community.

With our Los Angeles office now established in Manhattan Beach, Maestri Studio is proud to be an active part of California’s design story—creating architectural and interior experiences that are both rooted and forward-thinking.
