Scale, Proportion, and paying tribute to the History of a neighborhood.
Reimagining a 1938 cottage in the Hollywood Heights Conservation District of Dallas, Texas.
When we were approached in 2011 to reimagine this quaint 1000 square foot, the unassuming home looked ramshackle and covered in vines. Much of the exterior was not visible from the street, and its interior was filled with contents of years past as remnants of a full life.
Exploring the home with our client, we discovered hidden gems of details; a brick arch here, a forgotten light fixture there… a beautiful Art Deco mantel, a pristine mid-century floor lamp.
Our design goal aligned with our clients’ wishes to maintain the original character of the home while adding new square footage in a delicate balance of proportion and scale. The result is a 2500 square foot, 3 bedroom/ 2 bathroom home on one level. Ceiling heights were increased only where the natural grade dropped and allowed. The new detached two-car garage resembles that of a 1930s garage, and the back yard is viewed by a large screened in porch with a two-sided fireplace to the family room.
Our clients’ needs changed over the years as they had more children and needed more space. We were honored to reimagine another larger historic home for them nearby. The Santa Monica cottage got another breath of fresh air when a new family (the owner of Monet Interiors) purchased it in 2017, as it was the perfect fit for them. We are so pleased that it will be featured on the 2018 Hollywood Heights Home Tour.

Maestri Studio is proud to that two of our renovation projects (Casa Loma and Delrose) will be featured on the 2018 AIA Dallas Tour of Homes October 20-21. These renovations are an opportunity and challenge we have been honored to receive time and again; maintaining the character of a home, designing upon its strengths, and making it fresh and livable for today’s standards. Double Take - the 42nd Annual Lakewood Home Festival
Maestri Studio is honored to have homes featured on the Lakewood Home Festival Tour for the fifth year since 2012! This year we have two homes open to the thousands of patrons; 6933 Delrose and 6927 Pasadena.
