An Artistic Convergence of Cultures
During a transformative visit to the Chateau de Gudanes in 2016, Eddie Maestri discovered a source of inspiration that would shape his design for the Show House, Le Salon de Musique. This remarkable chateau, crafted by the architect behind Marie Antoinette’s Petit Trianon and Place de la Concorde in Paris, stands majestically in the South of France, just seventy miles from Toulouse. A quintessential example of eighteenth-century architecture, it boasts soaring ceilings, grand French doors, and opulent spaces designed for luxurious entertaining.
In this spirit, Maestri’s salon becomes an exquisite setting for relaxation, music, and conversation. Wrapped in the vibrant Porter Teleo’s Into the Wild wall covering, the room exudes a dynamic energy. Above, Jiun Ho’s Hanagasumi pendant light draws the eye upwards, evoking the ethereal beauty of cherry blossoms through its abstract design. Reflecting Maestri's extensive travels throughout Asia, the curated textiles from Mark Alexander, Samuel & Sons, and JG Switzer introduce a warm palette of oranges and rusts, further emphasizing the Eastern influences within this opulent space.
Modern Art Deco Inspirations
The design showcases bold geometric lines with the inclusion of the MOUS tallboy and bar, complemented by a bespoke Modern Metals fireplace screen and the Arcana by Maestri mantle, which serves as the focal point of the room. These elements together embody a contemporary interpretation of Art Deco, striking a balance between modernity and timeless elegance, making the space both inviting and perfectly suited for the ritzy gatherings that define the era.
A Touch of Glamour
Enhancing the ambiance, the metallic ceiling medallion and gracefully curved burlwood panels, highlighted by brass accents, bring an added layer of contemporary French elegance. The backlit effect on these features creates an intimate seating area, centered around a Maestri-designed sectional sofa atop a hand-tufted Feizy rug. Layered tulip Roman shades and oversized custom cornices from The Shade Store establish an air of sophistication, allowing architectural details to shine in previously bare spaces. Complementing the overall aesthetic, Benjamin Moore’s Coffeehouse Tan adds a subtle yet refined touch to the trim and molding, ensuring that every element harmonizes without overshadowing the captivating design.
In Le Salon de Musique, Eddie Maestri masterfully blends cultural influences and modern elegance, crafting a space that invites both relaxation and artistic appreciation.
