Eddie Maestri Designs the Architectural Plan for Veranda’s First-Ever 2026 Virtual Show House

Eddie Maestri Designs Spanish Revival Residence for Veranda’s 2026 Virtual Show House

Maestri Studio, the Dallas-based architecture and interior design firm led by licensed architect Eddie Maestri, was selected to design the Spanish Revival architectural foundation for Veranda’s first-ever 2026 Virtual Show House, featured in the March/April issue.

Titled California Dreaming, the editorial project was inspired by the preservation initiative New California Classics and brought together six leading designers to reinterpret beloved films through architecture and interiors. At the core of the residence is Eddie’s custom Spanish Revival plan, conceived as both a tribute to Southern California’s architectural heritage and a blueprint that could be constructed today using modern performance standards.

Spanish Revival Architecture Reimagined for Contemporary Living

Drawing from the New California Classics guide and influenced by historic California architects such as Gordon Kaufmann and Stiles O. Clements, Eddie developed a plan rooted in the defining language of 1920s and 1930s Spanish Revival architecture.

The exterior is envisioned in traditional masonry stucco with a Spanish tile roof, anchored by a rounded tower, an arched front door with scalloped detailing, and a stone motor court. Proportion, massing, and materiality were carefully calibrated to reflect regional precedent while meeting present-day expectations for resilience and livability.

The floor plan interweaves interior and exterior living, honoring Southern California’s tradition of loggias, courtyards, and garden rooms. Circulation unfolds from motor court to entry sequence to garden in a manner that feels both cinematic and historically grounded.

Working closely with landscape architect Patricia Benner, Eddie ensured that outdoor rooms were not secondary additions but integral architectural moments. From the dining courtyard to the pool garden, each space reinforces the structure of the plan and reflects an authentic material palette tied to Los Angeles heritage.

As noted in the feature, the home carries strong 1920s and 1930s influence, yet the intention is that it “could be built today.” That balance between historic reverence and contemporary constructability defines Maestri Studio’s approach to custom residential architecture.

Architectural Framework for an All-Star Collaboration

With the architectural foundation established, Veranda invited Mary McDonald, Jaime Rummerfield, Madeline Stuart, Martyn Lawrence Bullard, and Patricia Benner to interpret the interiors and landscape. Each designer selected a cinematic inspiration, bringing Hollywood heritage into dialogue with Spanish Revival architecture.

The strength of the plan lies in its clarity. Arched thresholds, proportional volumes, defined circulation, and layered transitions between indoor and outdoor spaces provide cohesion. Rather than competing, the interiors unfold within a disciplined architectural framework.

This collaboration underscores the importance of strong architectural planning as the basis for elevated interior design.

Preservation, Performance, and Cultural Responsibility

The Virtual Show House was born from the broader mission of New California Classics, an initiative responding to the 2025 Los Angeles wildfires with a focus on regionally authentic, fire-resilient residential design. The guide promotes seven defining Southern California architectural styles and encourages thoughtful rebuilding grounded in precedent.

For Maestri Studio, this ethos aligns directly with ongoing work nationwide. As a Dallas architect specializing in custom residential architecture, Eddie frequently draws from historic precedent to design new homes that feel rooted in place while meeting modern performance standards. Authentic materials, thoughtful massing, clarity of plan, and long-term durability remain central to the studio’s process.
