Eric Miles

Global Influence with Local Roots

A Dallas native, Eric earned his degree in Architecture from Auburn University, where he also worked with the acclaimed Rural Studio design/build program. His studies extended abroad, including time in Denmark and Kyoto, Japan, where he completed his thesis. Eric’s professional experience spans high-end residential and boutique hospitality projects, and he brings a deep interest in light, materiality, detailing, and tectonic expression. He has also spent significant time in Finland, studying Nordic design and lifestyle philosophies that continue to inform his approach. Outside the studio, Eric enjoys cooking, painting, time outdoors, and traveling the world in search of design and cultural inspiration.

What’s an overlooked architectural detail you love?

Gutters and drainage. The way water moves across a project can be incredibly inspiring. It’s a natural force whose flow can be expressed and channeled to create intimate moments of beauty or grand gestures. A great gutter doesn’t just hide water—it allows us to connect with it and the natural world around us.

What small architectural detail makes a big impact?

Door handles and handrails. The Finnish architect Juhani Pallasmaa calls the door handle “the handshake of the building.” It’s the first introduction to a space, and engaging senses beyond the visual elevates design. Every element we touch in a project has the power to shape our experience in a meaningful way.
