Eddie Maestri, founder of and the namesake behind Maestri Studio’s architecture and interior design firm, is the creative lead and driving force of his iconic brand’s expansion into the art world and retail design space. Mr. Maestri opens Maestri Gallery in the storefront space of his Exposition Park architecture studio to showcase local and international artists, offer unique home design items, and launch the Maestri furniture collection.
Maestri Gallery’s wide range of artists from Amsterdam to Nacogdoches, as well the offering of retail items collected across the globe, is a direct result of Maestri’s passion for travel.
“Whenever I travel to a new place, I try to find different ways to capture all of the beautiful things that inspire me. Through sketching, photography, purchasing art, it is important for me to hold on to these inspirations. The details, compositions, the similarities, yet strong differences, all influence who I am as a designer and the designer I will become.”
Local artist favorites include – Carolyn Joe Daniel, a painter whose canvases depict playful and whimsical illustrations of adventure; color enthusiast, Robin Ewing, who finds beauty evoking emotion from various palettes; and portrait and abstract painter, Kristen Dowd, known for her striking and saturated blend of handmade watercolor paints. The exhibit also showcases work by local Exposition Park gallery owner, Greg Piazza of Gallery 7NINE, and up and coming artist and Maestri Studio interior designer, Janelle Burns.
The gallery also feature international artists - Eddy Varekamp of Amsterdam and Andy Malone of Kent, England. Varekamp’s linocut and stencil prints and Malone’s three-dimensional collages art find common, colorful themes with the curated collection of Texas artists.
Jeffie Brewer’s striking and playful sculptures, seen everywhere from Santa Fe to Japan, combined with local mural artist, Alli Koch’s work on the Gallery’s storefront, offer an exterior preview of what art enthusiasts will find inside.
