Manhattan Pearl
A vintage 1936 bungalow reimagined with surfside sophistication, Manhattan Pearl is a personal project by Principal Eddie Maestri, designed as a retreat for his family and as Maestri Studio’s West Coast creative space. Nestled just a block from the ocean in Manhattan Beach, the home strikes a playful balance between retro charm and laid-back luxury.
The exterior’s soft green palette with crisp white trim, black shutters, and a bold striped awning nods to old Hollywood, while welcoming a breezy, beachside attitude. Inside, warm wood tones and bold finishes layer vintage character over a minimalist foundation. The living room centers around a sculptural floating fireplace and a vintage sectional, surrounded by curated art and framed coastal views.
At 1,140 square feet, the home called for thoughtful, cosmetic transformations. Rather than major remodels, the focus was on curated enhancements—fresh paint, expressive wallpapers, and impactful furniture and decor. A striking hand-painted Porter Teleo wall in the kitchen and bold wallpapers in the baths add color and whimsy, while layered lighting and new windows bring warmth and natural rhythm throughout.
The standout feature is the rooftop deck, transformed into a lush garden lounge with sculptural planters, cozy seating, and a retractable awning that frames views of the Pacific and a towering palm landmark. Designed as both an entry and destination, the rooftop perfectly captures the home’s spirit: relaxed, elevated, and connected to its California surroundings.
With no structural changes, Manhattan Pearl became a creative challenge in restraint—every detail intentional, every choice a reflection of Eddie’s love for design history and beachside ease.
